Diet related deaths are insane, and unacceptable. We have the power to prevent diseases. And we can’t look to our current education system because children aren’t learning proper nutrition, at all. If they really were learning, then the cafeteria lunch needs to resemble that. Pizza isn’t a vegetable.

But, why have so many people died and the childhood obesity rates are sky high? Is it greed, uneducated society, or laziness that could be potential reasons? Sure. But at the same time, there may not be enough organic produce provided on a consistent basis to fill the need. Is there really enough produce to go around?

How do we get more produce? We train and enable more farmers. With the average age of farmers to be close to 58 years old, the next generation farmer, must take the initiative to produce enough crops to feed communities., locally and regionally. No better next generation of farmers is the United States Military veterans.

There is a network of veterans committed to agriculture, and its a profound movement. We are Veterans who are taking agriculture seriously and are committed to continuing service to the country. Look at companies like Farmer Veteran Coalition and Veteran Farms as major influencers to this “veteran Ag occupation.”

How do we produce more farmers? Support the Veteran Agriculture Movement by linking veterans with agriculture through education and training like Archi’s Acres, or provide veterans who are interested in agriculture a job (full/part) and teach them with hands-on on-the-job training.

Something needs to change with our current food system. Check out Jamie Oliver’s TedTalk, it’ll give you something to chew on;
